About Literary Festival

To all our loyal M customers & Litfest fans,

After an extremely rough start to the year, I’m sure we’re all very pleased to see Shanghai coming back to life. Thank you for patiently waiting to hear about the 2020 Literary Festival. It’ll be no surprise but very sadly we have decided to cancel this year’s festival as we focus on the health and safety of our customers, our staff and our business.

Good restaurants are about more than just providing delicious quality wholesome meals in gorgeous comfortable surroundings with attentive staff to take care of your every need, and they’re not only about awards and award-winning wines lists, classic & exotic cocktail lists, or star-spotting. Essentially they’re about people and community and the coming together of all those elements to nurture ideas and warmth and trust.

Now more than ever we are reminded of the importance of community. As the first restaurant to open on the Bund in 1999, we have always worked towards being more than just a great restaurant. From our beginnings we’ve strived to create a hub for the exchange of ideas & cultures, through food & wine, literature & music & the arts, philanthropy and support and, most of all, through people.

We started the Shanghai Int Literary Festival in 2003, so this year’s edition, one of the favourite community events in the city, would have been the 18th Shanghai Litfest. Given all the travel restrictions and uncertainty we had little choice but to cancel. However we will look into doing a mini Litfest later in the autumn. Keep up to date through our social media platforms and follow us on wechat for the latest news.

With M on the Bund and Glam now open every day, it’s time to surround yourself with people you care about and let us look after you. So head Back to Bund to enjoy all we have on offer, meanwhile you keep reading and we’ll keep planning our community events.

Here’s hoping everyone everywhere affected by Covid-19 crisis will find their lives moving onto a more even keel soon.

M & the M team
