Nadeem Aslam: The Golden Legend
Sat, Mar 23, 16:00
Nadeem Aslam is the author of five novels, including the Wasted Vigil and Season of the Rainbirds, which won the Betty Trask Award for fiction in 1994. In his most recent book, The Golden Legend, Nadeem focuses on his native Pakistan, expounding the lives of its central characters, Nargis and Massud, a cosmopolitan couple whose marriage is upended by a sudden act of violence. Set largely in the aftermath of this tragedy, The Golden Legend looks at the ravages of neo-imperialism and religious dogmatism in contemporary Pakistan, highlighting the heroism of ordinary people in the fight against intolerance. Nadeem Aslam will be joined by Aaliyah Bilal to discuss Brexit, Trump and writing in tumultuous times.
